Sunday as Horyaal FC secured a historic victory, defeating Wadani FC 3-2 in a final that will be remembered for years to come.
The match, held at the premier Soccer First Inc. facility in Dublin, served as the grand climax to a four-day tournament that brought together 30 teams and thousands of fans from across North America.
The Match: A Battle of Giants
From the opening whistle, the intensity was palpable. Horyaal FC, known for their disciplined defensive structure and clinical counter-attacks, faced a high-pressing Wadani FC side that refused to back down.
Horyaal FC took an early lead, but Wadani FC fought back to equalize, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. The game remained deadlocked until a late-game surge saw Horyaal FC find the back of the net twice in quick succession. Despite a late 89th-minute goal from Wadani FC that set up a nerve-wracking period of stoppage time, Horyaal FC held firm to clinch the 3-2 win.

The Odayaasha Division
The veteran division saw its own share of drama, with Washington DC taking home the championship trophy. Their victory underscored the “Unifying Generations” theme of the tournament, proving that the passion for the game remains as strong as ever among the community’s elders.
A Night of Celebration
The celebration moved from the pitch to the ballroom as the New American Heritage Sports League (NAHSL) hosted the Grand Finale Dinner & Awards Gala at the Crowne Plaza Columbus North.
The evening was graced by Guest of Honor H.E. Amb. Abukar Dahir Osman, Somalia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, who spoke on the importance of sports in fostering unity within the diaspora.
